Update: NPS plans to reopen the monument at noon. Crews have tested the electrical system and said that it won’t have a repeat of Wednesday night’s power failure, spokesman Mike Litterst said in a statement. He added that technicians will stay at the site until it closes tonight at 10 p.m. as a precaution.

More than a day after the elevator at the Washington Monument lost power, the site remains closed, the National Park Service said this morning.

Crews are working to “continue to try and isolate the source of the electrical problem,” NPS spokesman Mike Litterst said. “The monument will reopen as soon as electricians and elevator technicians can determine what caused the problem and make any adjustments to ensure it will not happen again.”
