Happy commute home. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the District and parts of Maryland and Virginia until “late tonight.”

“Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage through this evening and continue through through late tonight. Some of the storms will contain torrential downpours which may lead to flash flooding,” NWS warned.

The average rainfall is expected to be between one and two inches, but it could be more than three inches in some places. And according to NWS, recent rains have saturated the soil and increased the likelihood of flash flooding. Stay safe.
