The storms that swept through the D.C. region yesterday evening may have been brief, but they sure packed a punch.
In fact, the amount of rain that fell during the thunderstorms yesterday evening set a new record, with the record amount at National Airport being 2.49 inches and BWI Airport 2.5 inches. Those were both record-setting rainfalls, Capital Weather Gang reports, with the previous records being 2.20 inches (set in 1907) and 2.14 inches (set in 1979), respectively. Naturally, some flooding occurred:

In addition to the flash flooding throughout the region, yesterday’s storms produced high enough winds that trees fell everywhere. Including this poor Metrobus:
