Dave Grohl, leader of alt-rock band Foo Fighters and self-appointed historian of D.C. music—recently tweeted a neat little nugget from his punk rock past: a fan letter he wrote to Ian MacKaye when he was 14.

Haha!

But the story doesn’t end there. After the tweet, NME followed up with Grohl about the letter in a video interview with the band, asking him about MacKaye and Dischord’s influence on him. Grohl tells NME that he wrote the letter to MacKaye because he secretly wanted Dischord to put out a record by his then-band Mission Impossible. In fact, he not-so-secretly wants MacKaye/Dischord to put out some of his band’s music.

Haha!

In fact, if Dischord were to put out a Foos single, Grohl said, the band could then break up. “Done deal,” he said.

Naturally, the corner of the Internet who hates Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters did the inevitable: started a Change.org petition to get Dischord to put out a Foo Fighters’ single so the band could then break up. Here’s what the petition says:

People should support this petition because Dave Grohl says that, should Dischord release a Foo Fighters single, Foo Fighters will break up. This is very important, as Grohl and his band might be the most insufferable band of bros on the planet.

DCist reached out to Dischord to see if they would be game for putting out a new Foo Fighters single. We’ll update if we hear back.

Of course, not everyone thinks Grohl and his band “might be the most insufferable band of bros on the planet.” Some people like the Foo Fighters a lot. So much that they’ve raised almost $70,000 to get them to play their hometown. But most people probably don’t have a problem with Grohl or the Foos and think they’re just fine.

Either way, it would be kind of cool if Dischord put out a Foo Fighters single because at least that would mean Dischord is putting out new music.

Haha!
