U.S. Capitol Police evacuated several floors of the Dirksen Senate Office Building this afternoon after a bomb threat was called in. They have reopened the building after finding nothing hazardous, police said in a statement.
Police received a phone call reporting a suspicious package in room SD-340—which they described as a bomb threat—but found nothing hazardous and cleared the room. They also cleared a suspicious package in the Russell Courtyard, which turned out to be an “unattended lunch cooler.”
The evacuation interrupted a hearing on the Transportation Security Administration.
Police activity in the Dirksen #Senate building all clear. Norhtwest Door is now open. Thank you staff and visitors for your cooperation.
