Born out of a harsh February winter, District Summer is a new compilation from local DJ Jake Komara that looks to capture the music and vibes associated with living in D.C. during the warmer months. The mix brings together contributions from a handful of noteworthy electronic artists that have been active in the District spanning a decade—including Nacey (of Misun), Thomas Blondet, Outputmessage, Wave Age (a Caleb L’Etoile project), and Will Eastman.
“Musically, this is a first,” Komara says of the collaboration. “But I’ve DJ’ed with everyone over the last ten years in the city. The majority of these tracks were made just for this album.”
Spanning ten tracks, District Summer covers an expansive breadth of electronic music that pulls from deep house, French, techno, and synth-pop to create an airy, palatable electronica album.
“D.C. has a very smart and diverse music community that’s always pushing the envelope,” says Komara. “The producers on the compilation each contribute into moving things forward musically.”
After the overwhelming response District Summer has garnered, Komara is certain that there will be another mix coming soon. Stream District Summer below. Feels better than a non-air conditioned Metro station, right?
