Four people were transported to the hospital today for suspected synthetic marijuana overdoses. D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Tim Wilson said that units responded to the Community for Creative Non-Violence at 425 2nd Street NW just after 3 p.m. today where four adults appeared to have overdosed.

Wilson couldn’t confirm if the overdose was because of synthetic marijuana but said that “this could be a similar incident to the one we encountered a couple of weeks ago,” in which 11 adults at the CCNV shelter were hospitalized after overdosing on the “Bizarro” brand of synthetic marijuana.

Just yesterday, Mayor Muriel Bowser, MPD Chief Cathy Lanier, and other D.C. officials announced a comprehensive and aggressive new strategy to combat the recent rise of synthetic drugs in D.C.

“We believe these significant strategic changes will be of great help for our police department, both in terms of combating the new environment of illegal drug manufacturing and sales as well as increasing their visible presence in our communities and interacting with our residents,” Bowser said at a press conference yesterday. She’s expected to deliver emergency legislation to the D.C. Council this week to help combat the sale of synthetic marijuana.
