Could President Barack Obama get any cooler? Sorry, let me rephrase: could President Barack Obama’s public relations team make him look any cooler by pandering him to the millennial/viral/alt-comedy world? The answer seems to be “no,” as Obama is set to visit Marc Maron’s Cat Ranch (re: his garage studio) to be a guest on his wildly popular podcast WTF With Marc Maron.
Deadline reports that, as part of his L.A. tour, which includes fundraisers at the homes of Chuck Lorre and Tyler Perry, Obama will stop by Maron’s place to record an hour-long episode of WTF. The commercial-free episode will be posted on June 22.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Obama has appeared in viral and/or alt-comedy segments. He was famously the guest on an episode of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis last year, was on an episode of The Colbert Report, and even made a viral Buzzfeed video to hock Obamacare, because ¯(ツ)/¯
Anyway, with the 2016 Presidential election just beginning to heat up, I wonder what kind of shameless publicity stunts candidates will do to pander to the millennial generation? Next week: Jeb Bush will be a guest judge on The Voice, Bernie Sanders on Dancing With the Stars, and Hilary Clinton drops a dubstep mixtape.
