For those interested in all the glories of busking without any of that pesky payment, MetroPerforms! is back.

A group of artists will be chosen to play, sing, and dance outside of Metrorail stations during the annual performance series. Like anyone else performing near Metro, they aren’t allowed to ask for tips or sell merchandise.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Metro Headquarters
(600 Fifth Street, NW) on a first come, first served basis. Performers might also be chosen to participate in the annual showcase Music on the Mall.

Despite the annual media spectacle of the auditions, the luster seems to wear off pretty quickly. In 2013, Express reported that only about half of the artists were showing up to their gigs.
