You already knew that Pope Francis is visiting D.C. this September but until today, you didn’t know that he’d be bringing his Popemobile with him.
At a press conference today, Cardinal Donald Wuerl confirmed that the pope will indeed be using the Popemobile to traverse around the streets of D.C. Wuerl also announced the pope’s schedule during his time in D.C., which includes a meeting with President Barack Obama.
Pope Francis will arrive at Joint Base Andrews the evening of September 22 and meet with the President the following morning. He’ll lead a midday prayer on September 23 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral and then lead Mass of Canonization of Junipero Serra at the Basilicia of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University, which will be the only chance for the public to see Pope Francis.
On Thursday, September 24 he’ll address a joint session of Congress before visiting St. Patrick in the City and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington. Afterwards, he’ll head to New York City, where New Yorkers will surely gloat to him how much better masses are in their city.
