An injured construction worker was rescued this morning from the bottom of a six-story pit in Southeast.
D.C. Fire and EMS received a call shortly after 8:30 a.m. and responded to the scene at the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue SE.
“The initial call was for someone in the hole that required medical attention so in order to get the patient out we needed to send a rescue team,” fire spokesman Tim Wilson told DCist.
It took no more than 30 minutes to get the man out of the 60-foot hole, Wilson said. The worker was then taken to a local hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries, and he is expected to survive.
It is unclear how he initially sustained the injuries.
