Pope Francis is scheduled to address a joint meeting on September 24, and the public is invited to watch a live broadcast on the West Front of the Capitol. The pope has also said he wished to make a brief appearance at the West Front, according to House Speaker John Boehner.
“We look forward to welcoming Pope Francis and Americans from all walks of life to our Capitol,” he said in a release.
The pope (and popemobile) arrive in D.C. on Sept. 22 and he will meet with President Barack Obama the next day. The only other chance for the public to see Pope Francis will be at an outdoor Mass on September 23 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception near Catholic University.
After his visit to the District, Pope Francis is scheduled to travel to New York City and Philadelphia.
