A manatee has been spotted hanging out in a tributary of the Potomac River, according to Baltimore’s National Aquarium.

Although it isn’t a common experience to stumble upon one of the majestic marine mammals in our waters, the aquarium says it isn’t a coincidence. In the summer, manatees head up the East Coast from Florida, and the Chesapeake Bay has plenty of sea grasses for them to graze on. This particular creature was seen cruising in the St. George Creek near Waldorf, Md.

If you spot a manatee, the aquarium says to give the animal its space and call their stranding hotline: 410-576-3880. These animals are listed as vulnerable by the World Conservation Union.
