This week saw another woe for WMATA: asbestos. While Metro insists that the small amount of asbestos found in 1000-series railcars pose no threat to riders, many are still wary. Good thing that this weekend’s schedule track work should further inspire you to probably stay away from Metro this weekend; five of six lines will be undergoing scheduled track work. Here’s what’s going on:
Red Line
Trains every 8-16 minutes
Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:
Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: trains every 16 minutes.
Between Dupont Circle & Rhode Island Ave: every 8-10 minutes from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. only.Work performed: Rail, tie and insulator renewal for a safer ride will cause Red Line trains to share one track between Dupont Circle & Van Ness and between Fort Totten & Silver Spring.
Orange Line
Orange Line trains will operate every 24 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work performed: Orange Line trains will share one track between West Falls Church & Ballston and Stadium-Armory & Cheverly to allow for joint elimination, grout pad rehabilitation, and rail, fastener & stud renewal for a safer ride.
Silver Line
Silver Line trains will operate every 24 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work performed: Silver Line trains will share one track between Ballston and McLean to allow for joint elimination, rail, fastener and stud renewal for a safer ride.
Blue Line
Blue Line trains will operate every 24 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work performed: Blue Line trains will share one track between Pentagon City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to allow for emergency call box and lighting replacement.
Yellow Line
Yellow Line trains will operate every 24 minutes between Huntington and Fort Totten
