After this morning’s derailment debacle, Metro is slowly trying to get things back to normal. Unfortunately, they’re still working on the situation, which means service this afternoon and evening will be impacted.

Metro says they’ve restored limited rail service on the Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines, with a single track between the McPherson Square and Federal Center SW stations. The Smithsonian station—where the derailment took place—will remain closed. Blue and Orange Line trains will run non-stop between Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza, but shuttle buses will help passengers get to and from those stations.

Here’s how the situation is impacting Metro lines this afternoon:

  • Orange Line: Trains running in both directions between Vienna and New Carrollton. Trains will run less frequently than normal due to single tracking and will bypass Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations.
  • Blue Line: Trains running in both directions between Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center. Trains will run less frequently than normal due to single tracking and will bypass Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations.
  • Silver Line: Trains will run ONLY between Wiehle-Reston East and East Falls Church. Silver Line riders traveling between DC and Virginia should transfer to/from Orange Line trains at East Falls Church.

This will undoubtedly cause major problems for Metro riders this afternoon. You’ve been warned.
