Bluejacket (300 Tingey Street SE) brewery is flinging open the doors to its new combination bottle shop and tasting room tomorrow.
Headed by Neighborhood Restaurant Group’s beer director Greg Engert and head brewer Josh Chapman, Bluejacket is known as much for their slick facility as they are for their ever-changing lineup of inventive brews. But those wanting to try one of their many offerings were previously limited to visiting the brewery or searching through draft lists at local bars. Bluejacket has been bottling beers, but it had been on a limited scale, and for beer geeks looking to assemble a collection it’s been a tough road.
Now, the final touches are being put onto the bottle shop and tasting room housed in the space adjacent to the brewery, which previously once housed Buzz Bakery. Twenty-three bottles will be available on opening day, including 10 bottle debuts and a few never-before-seen rarities. Doors open at 11 a.m. and folks will be able to shop and sip until closing at 4 p.m.
The space will also have six beers on tap, with the opening lineup consisting of Forbidden Planet, a dry-hopped Kölsch with Galaxy hops; Lost Weekend, an IPA dry-hopped with Citra hops; The Jam, a strawberry-rhubarb Berliner weisse that is naturally soured; two barrel-aged sours called Jackal and Swirl, the latter of which is aged in red wine barrels; and a whiskey-barrel-aged imperial spiced stout called Double Mexican Radio.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to win two VIP passes to the annual Snallygaster beer festival in September.
