If the the fatal smoke incident at the L’Enfant Plaza station in January was any indication, Metro has some serious improvements to make in how to handle such a situation. This weekend, they’ll train for that with an emergency smoke/fire drill at the Stadium-Armory station.

Metro announced in a release that a “full-scale emergency response drill” will be conducted Sunday from 7:45 a.m. until about 10 a.m. During the drill, Metro Transit Police and D.C. Fire and EMS will simulate a smoke/fire incident in the tunnel outside of the Stadium-Armory Station, along with units from the Metropolitan Police Department and D.C. Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency.

Passengers can expect both the Stadium-Armory and Potomac Avenue stations to be closed this weekend, with bus service replacing train service.

Metro says that this weekend’s drill will also test the remote control of its ventilation fans from the Rail Operations Control Center, which didn’t work in the January incident at L’Enfant Plaza.
