A market in Petworth has been shut down and will vacate the premises for selling synthetic drugs. Yesterday, the office of Attorney General Karl Racine announced that the Riyad Market at 800 Upshur Street NW will have to vacate the property by November 13th.
In October of last year, Riyad Market was raided by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Narcotics and Special Investigations Division and seized of more than 500 packets of synthetic drugs. Since then, the Attorney General’s office has been working with the owners of the property to vacate Riyad Market, who leases the property.
Racine says that the market “had become notorious in the neighborhood for posing a significant challenge to public safety and quality of life.”
