With the D.C. Council on a two month summer recess, opportunities to see our elected representatives spar in person are few and far between. Next week, though, 10 of the 13 Councilmembers are slated to face off at the ping pong table.
The Golden Triangle BID is hosting the first D.C. Council Table Tennis Tournament, which it plans to make an annual event, on September 4 at Farragut Park.
Apparently Vincent Orange was inspired after seeing the park teeming with office workers during the BID’s summertime Farragut Fridays. “I couldn’t believe how many people were outdoors taking a break from their desk and enjoying the summer weather,” Orange said in a release. “I decided that my fellow councilmembers and I shouldn’t miss out on the fun!”
So far, more than two-thirds of the Council—Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmembers Vincent Orange, Elissa Silverman, Jack Evans, Mary Cheh, Brandon Todd, Kenyan McDuffie, Charles Allen, Yvette Alexander, and LaRuby May—have said they’ll paddle up to take on their colleagues in the last few weeks before they return from recess.
Another tournament is scheduled the following week for area employees.
