The homicide count climbed to 109 over Labor Day weekend after a spate of violence that left four dead and many more injured.

On Friday at approximately 11:35 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 3000 block of 25th Street NE. Two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds, one of whom—22-year-old Davon Wade—succumbed to his injuries.

The next evening, on Saturday, September 5 at about 9:16 p.m., police discovered a car on fire in the 400 block of Xenia Street SE. In it, they found a body burning along with the car. Police ruled the death a homicide and still haven’t identified the victim.

While those two cases are still under investigation, police did make a quick arrest in a homicide that occurred on Sunday at about 3:22 a.m. in the 6400 block of 7th Street NW. 27-year-old Dejuan Etheridge of NE D.C. was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed in the death of 55-year-old Uyer Barnard Hooper. In the shooting, another victim—an adult male—suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

And last night, two separate shootings in the span of an hour left one man dead, and six others injured, the Post reports. At about 10 p.m., police responded to reports of dozens of gunshots in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE where five men were shot and wounded.

30 minutes later, one man was killed and another critically injured on Forrester Street SW.
