The father of slain WDBJ reporter Alison Parker was on Capitol Hill today as part of a rally urging Congress to pass legislation to strengthen gun control laws.

Andy Parker—whose daughter Alison and her co-worker, Adam Ward, were shot and killed during a live segment late last month—spoke on the East Front lawn this morning, demanding that Congress address gun control in the country. The Associate Press reports that, among the topics Parker broached, was urging lawmakers to defy the gun lobby and pass legislation that will strengthen background checks for prospective gun purchasers.

Parker was joined by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe alone with senators Mark Warner and Timothy Kaine at the rally, dubbed the #Whateverittakes Day of Action.

“I plan to devote all of my strength and resources to seeing that some good comes from this evil,” Parker wrote in a recent op-ed for the Post after his daughter’s death. “I am entering this arena with open eyes. I realize the magnitude of the force that opposes sensible and reasonable safeguards on the purchase of devices that have a single purpose: to kill.”
