The White House was placed on a security lockdown for more than half an hour this afternoon after an unattended package was found across the street in Lafayette Park, Reuters reports.

D.C. Fire units arrived on the scene a little after three, a spokesman confirmed. The Secret Service determined the package was safe and cleared the area around 3:35 p.m.

President Barack Obama wasn’t in the building at the time.
