Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office and D.C. Fire and EMS plan to contract with a private ambulance company to handle low priority calls, FOX 5 reported today. A letter obtained by Paul Wagner says the mayor’s office will seek approval from the D.C. Council through legislation to put the plan in effect.
When asked about fears of the department’s privatization, Bowser prioritized her concerns around the need to address increased calls, says WaPo’s Aaron C. Davis.
With stories of D.C. Fire and EMS being unavailable to respond to an injured police officer and a man who died of a heart attack while waiting for an ambulance, help may not be such a bad idea.
