There’s a new person for you to get into fights with on Twitter: NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has a new verified account.
The fugitive responsible for revealing the wide-ranging government surveillance of Americans sent out his first tweet asking if anyone could hear him (it’s basically a Dad Joke, referencing that old Verizon commercial):
Can you hear me now?

His Twitter bio: “I used to work for the government. Now I work for the public. Director at @FreedomofPress.” He only follows one account on Twitter: the NSA.
Recently, Snowden gave an interview to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who asked him why he wasn’t on Twitter. The Intercept has the transcript from the interview released Friday:
“You kind of need a Twitter handle. So like @Snowden, maybe? Is this something you might do?” Tyson asked.
“That sounds good, I think we’ve got to make it it happen,” Snowden replied.
“You and I will be Twitter buddies,” Snowden told Tyson. “Your followers will be: the Internet, me, and the NSA.”
