Congress is back in session, internships are turning into paying jobs, college kids are back in town. The end of summer isn’t the happiest time of year, but it is a great time to take a little time for yourself. Instead of waiting for the holidays or even next spring, maybe it’s time to plan a staycation? DC has tons to offer, whether you’re the type to hit up your favorite museums during a weekday or spend your savings on relaxing in true luxury.
To get you thinking, we’ve partnered up with travel experts at Expedia.com for a look at some amazing hotels of every kind in the Gothamist Network. Here are a few in the District that might be just what you need to keep the vacation going.

Come for: Thoughtful nods to history. This famous hotel was recently renovated right down to the wiring, and the result is a monument to its namesake. Find an intimate library of leather-bound books (Jefferson was a reader, of course), a working dumbwaiter (his invention), fabric with toile scenes of the building of Monticello (his design), and a beautiful private dining table in the wine cellar (his passion).
Stay for: The modernity. Peer into the bathroom mirror and find a hidden TV screen; leave your room service cart in the hall and a microchip alerts staff to remove it posthaste; complimentary room service arrives 24 hours a day on a silver tray. Not a bad way to spend a vacation.
What else? The nightlife in the neighborhood won’t take your breath away, but that’s not why you stay at a place like this. Check in, go for a swim, get a massage, put on your robe and forget the world exists until check out.

Come for: The view. This hotel sits directly across from a certain landmark, earning its descriptive slogan: “Where nothing is overlooked but the White House.” Make sure to get a room with a view.
Stay for: The sightseeing. This is the kind of hotel you get if you want to really dedicate yourself to the monuments, museums, walking tours in the area. Everything’s in a few minutes’ walk.
What else? Service is impeccable, right down to the concierge, room service, and turndown with chocolate and a card outlining the next day’s weather. The design isn’t for everyone, but let’s say it’s less “dowdy” and more “mature.”

Come for: The rooftop bar. POV has some of the best views in the city and you’d do well to order a cocktail or two while you take it all in.
Stay for: 24-hour room service. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway of the highest order, nothing says “luxury” like “3am steak frites.”
What else? Should you actually choose to leave your room, the hotel offers a free chauffeur service as well as a “Whatever/Whenever” concierge each W is known for.

Come for: The rooftop pool. It’s rowdy, it’s beautiful, and it has great views. Round out the indulgence with some delicious sushi from well-regarded Zentan downstairs.
Stay for: In-room spa treatments. They’re even available 24 hours (for an added fee).
What else?: It’s not just the sexy roof and in-room massages that are romantic—the whole atmosphere here seems perfect for a couple looking for some romantic seclusion.

Come for: The bar. Bistro Bis is a favorite in the hotel bar circuit, serving upscale French fare in a cherry-clad room.
Stay for: The value. For the location, The George is worth checking out if you don’t necessarily want to break the bank for a little weekend vacation.
What else? Being a Kimpton hotel, the perks are everywhere. Complimentary bikes are available, there’s a wine tasting hour every evening, pets are enthusiastically welcomed—the list goes on.

Come for: The bed. 12 rooms all feature classic decor and comfortable furnishings, including built-in cabinetry, six-foot windows, fireplaces and four-poster beds. The top-floor suite in particular is a gem; with its own sitting area and the privacy of the third floor, it’s ideal for a romantic retreat.
Stay for: The breakfast. Yep, it’s a B&B. Chef Kevin is the man in the kitchen here, and he’s famous for his gourmet, seasonal flair with homey dishes like pancakes, eggs benedict, quiche, breakfast breads and more. Breakfast is bountiful, complimentary and served every morning, including holidays.
What else? This hotel is located in Adams Morgan, which is a nice touch if you’re looking to get out a little during your stay.
