The grungy, sticky theater of your middle school days this is not. In fact, it’s not even just a movie theater. Landmark Theatre’s newest offering in the District is also a bar and lounge, replete with the leather seating and reclaimed wood and Edison-esque light bulbs and $12 cocktails that are mandatory signifiers of a Cool Place For Young People.

But yes, it is also a movie theater—one with six screens—just down the street from the 9:30 Club (and at the base of the luxury Atlantic Plumbing development). It opens on October 15, with all screens showing the Steve Jobs biopic.

Although the closure of West End Cinema earlier this year had many independent theater fans worried, the new Landmark location is actually part of a much-needed resurgence of movie offerings in the District (and Landmark, in fact, reopened the West End Cinema several months later).
