The five candidates—Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee (CNN has also invited Joe Biden)—take to the dais tonight. Here are your evening options to watch on a big screen.
CIRCA Dupont (1601 Connecticut Avenue NW) and CIRCA Foggy Bottom (2221 I Street NW): “Both locations set new policies to extend happy hour pricing for their classic cuisine and cocktails through the end of each debate – a move said to be as effective as the 114th Congress thus far. (editor’s note: huh?) Those who cast their vote to watch upcoming debates at CIRCA DuPont or CIRCA Foggy Bottom will do so with the advantage of numerous HD plasma television screens and fellow 2016 election followers. Take in the political action while sipping on $5 draft beers and $7 glasses of red and white house wine. Guests will also enjoy extended happy hour, which includes $8 small plates … through the end of each debate.”
Johnny Pistolas (2333 18th Street NW): The reproductive rights activists Lady Parts Justice DC once inadvertently ran into the official watch party for the GOP debate at Johnny Pistolas. This time, they are taking over the upstairs bar, which will be showing the debate on 11 screens, “so we can hear loud & clear what the candidates have to say about Planned Parenthood….I mean ‘the issues.'” There will be specials between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. to include $2 tacos, $3 Tecate, $4 Pacifico, and $5 margaritas. Details here.
Local 16 (1602 U Street NW): The DC Young Democrats will be joined by the National Organization of Women, DC Chapter; Democratic Gain; NAACP, D.C. Branch; Democratic National Committee, Youth Council; and Democratic Association of Secretaries of State starting at 8 p.m. Details for the free event here.
Meanwhile, the Hillary Clinton campaign is also hosting an event at Local 16. Tickets for that event are in the form of a $20 donation to the campaign. Once in, you’ll find “happy hour prices all night and complimentary hors d’oeuvres” as well as an appearance by her director of political engagement, Marlon Marshall. Details here.
BlackFinn (1620 I Street NW): Official Hillary fans have another option.
Stetsons (1610 U St NW): Team O’Malley will be hanging out in the upstairs Blue Sky room.
Nellie’s Sports Bar (900 U Street NW): Politics counts as a sport in the nation’s capital, and our preeminent gay sports bar will certainly be showing the debate.
Ventnor Sports Cafe (2411 18th St NW): “In keeping with our tradtion of showing these debates and other events, join us for the Debate. We know The Donalds not in this one, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get crazy,” they write.
Number Nine (1435 P St NW): They write : “Pop in a little early, grab a good viewing spot and catch the end of our 2-4-1 Happy Hour.”
Shaw’s Tavern (520 Florida Ave NW): Wash down half-priced burgers and pizzas with $5 house wines and Sam Adams Octoberfest. Details here.
Brickside Food & Drink (4866 Cordell Ave, Bethesda): A group called MoCo4Bernie will be at this Bethesda establishment, and they plan to flyer afterward. More here.
OpenGov Hub (1110 Vermont Avenue NW): The Network For Progress is teaming up with a number of institutions for what they are billing as a “‘Yes YOU Can’ Movement Mixer & Dem Debate Watch.” It will feature a discussion of 2016 Democratic strategy with D.C. Councilmember Brianne Nadeau and Simon Rosenberg, founder of the New Democrat Network. They also promise to make the mixer part “easier with name tags and Networking Potluck buckets so you can feel comfortable to introduce yourself to attendees with similar interests.” Half of the proceeds from the $5 advance tickets or the $10 door ticks will go to a charity voted on by attendees (tickets to just the debate watch are free). More information here.
Mad Rose Tavern (3100 Clarendon Blvd, Arlington): They promise “free food, drink specials, and some candidate bingo with fun prizes.” Details here.
Busboys and Poets: All six locations promise a live screening and drink specials, including the $8 Demo Blue (coconut rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice).
Looking Glass Lounge (3634 Georgia Ave NW): “Come early and join us for trivia from 7pm – 8pm and then stay and watch the debates starting at 9PM,” they say.
