StoryCorps, the non-profit oral history project responsible for making millions of NPR Morning Edition listeners cry (myself included), is teaming up with the Library of Congress for The Great Thanksgiving Listen.

Conceived as a national homework assignment for students age 13 and up, The Great Thanksgiving Listen is a pilot project intended to gather stories and memories from elder family members during a time when extended families are likely to be gathered together.

Anyone with a smart phone and the StoryCorps app can record both pictures and audio, which will be contributed to the oral history archive at the American Folk Life Center at the Library of Congress. The permission form and instructions can be found here, and more information about StoryCorps itself is available at their website.
