In a turn of events likely accompanied by the sound of hundreds of foreheads being slapped, Washington Capitals captain and winger Alex Ovechkin admitted that he didn’t actually miss last night’s game against San Jose because of vague “personal reasons,” as originally stated by the team, so much as difficulty with small electronics.
It turns out, Ovechkin slept through Tuesday morning’s skate due to an a.m./p.m. alarm mixup. Per team rules, not being present for the morning practice forced head coach Barry Trotz to pull Ovechkin from the evening game. The move added insult to injury when the Caps got destroyed, with a final score of 0-5.
When asked how it felt to miss the matchup against San Jose, Ovechkin responded with his usual candor: “It was suck.”
Thankfully for Caps fans, Ovechkin was back on the ice for practice this morning, and is expected to play on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
