Mayor Muriel Bowser and Ted Leonsis’ announcement that the St. Elizabeth’s East campus will be the new home of the Washington Mystics and the practice facility for the Wizards last month didn’t exactly sit well with everyone. Now nearby residents—whether they have cheers or jeers for the project— have an opportunity to learn more about a project that could bring more than 300,000 people to Congress Heights.

Events DC, the city’s convention and sports authority, is hosting a Ward 8 community meeting regarding the proposed arena.

The purpose of the meeting is to serve as an introduction to the Ward 8 community, explain the roles of the organizations involved, provide a brief summary of the project, and initiate our community engagement for the Entertainment and Sports Arena project. The meeting will also encourage and allow the community to share their feedback and ideas in an open forum.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26 at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, and participants can register here. We’ll see if there’s more love for this stadium than a return of the Washington Football Team to RFK.
