In what seems like a golden age that will never end, it has become easier and easier to see good documentaries in this town. AFI Docs is going to start making that even easier. Next month, the festival launches a screening program that will continue year-round, with special guests and panel discussions.

The series begins with the Washington-area premiere of director Michael Moore’s Where To Invade Next. In his new film, Moore (Roger and Me, Bowling for Columbine) continues his signature documentary method of injecting himself into the narrative, playing an invader who visits other countries to learn how they would deal with the social and economic ills of the United States.

Where to Invade Next screens on November 16 at E Street Landmark Cinema, which will be home base for the new series. Moore will appear at the screening and participate in a post-screening discussion after the film.

Members of the AFI DOCS advisory board include such documentary legends as Ken Burns, Davis Guggenheim, Chris Hegedus, Werner Herzog, Barbara Kopple, Spike Lee, Errol Morris, D A Pennebaker and Frederick Wiseman (whose latest film, Jackson Heights, opens at the at AFI Silver on November 13). The 14th annual AFI Docs festival will be held June 22-26, 2016, but there will be more than enough documentaries to whet your non-fiction jones until then.
