Wiedefeld became WMATA’s top choice after its previous top choice, Neal Cohen, dropped out of the running at the beginning of the week. He served twice as the CEO of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and a term as the director of the Maryland Transit Authority, along with years of private sector experience.
According to Fox, there was a standing ovation after the announcement. Enjoy it while you can, Paul. You join Paul Ryan in the exclusive club of “Pauls With Jobs That Will Make People Hate You.”
The formal appointment will take place on November 19. WMATA is hoping to finalize a contract agreement with Wiedefeld by then.
