Owners of one of the trademarks listed in the Washington Football Team’s legal memo are responding…in song.
The team last week issued a finger-pointing legal brief last week, arguing that the many “racist, or misogynistic, vulgar, or otherwise offensive” trademarks listed within were just as bad as its name.
The memo appealed a federal judge’s decision to uphold the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s decision to cancel the team’s trademark, on the basis that it is “disparaging to Native Americans.”
The musical comedy Reformed Whores say that, “We’re aghast they compared that racist name to us, Reformed Whores. Well we won’t take that lying down ‘cuz we don’t do that anymore.” Marie Cecile Anderson and Katy Frame go on to argue that their duo’s name is satirical, unlike the team’s.
