In a video posted on Monday, the Islamic State threatened to attack Washington, D.C. in the same style as the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people on Friday.

Reuters reports that the video appeared on a site that the Islamic State uses to post messages, but it couldn’t immediately be verified.

After several minutes of news footage of the attacks’ aftermath, a man identified as Al Ghareeb the Algerian threatens the countries involved in what he calls the “crusader campaign” against the Islamic State.

“We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France’s and by God, as we struck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington,” the man says, according to the news agency.

He also warned Europe of additional attacks: “I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and (gun) silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before.”

When asked about the video, the FBI’s Washington Field Office on Monday referred to a statement they released over the weekend, which said the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI were closely monitoring the events in Paris. “At this time, there is no specific or credible threat to the United States. We will not hesitate to adjust our security posture, as appropriate, to protect the American people.”

Speaking this morning at a news conference in Turkey, where he is attending a G20 meeting, President Barack Obama said there have been longstanding concerns about the terrorist organization attacking in the west.

“One of the challenges we have is, if you have a handful of people who don’t mind dying, they can kill a lot of people. That’s one of the challenges of terrorism,” Obama said, particularly referencing the flow of fighters from both Europe and the United States who then return home. “ISIL has serious capabilities; they’re not unique… and we’re going after all of them.”

“The vigilance that the United States government maintains, and the cooperation with our European partners, is robust and constant,” he said.

After the attacks on Friday, D.C. Police increased its presence on the streets. “We immediately dispatched additional officers to our streets and you will see them in your travels conspicuously patrolling areas of our city,” Police Chief Cathy Lanier said. “We will maintain this additional presence until such time as more information becomes available on this attack, and we feel circumstances dictate that they are no longer needed.”
