In what’s being billed as “the best thirty minutes of your life,” you (and by “you” I mean Georgetown residents) will be able to order a basket of kittens to your door. But this isn’t yet another Uber promotion. Crumbs and Whiskers, the city’s much-hyped cat cafe, said today that they plan to open registration soon for a December 20th kitten delivery date.
The 30 minutes of cat time comes with a $99 price tag—15 percent of which will go to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation.
Would-be kitten renters who reside in Georgetown can’t have any other pets (because the kittens want all your attention) or kids under seven years old. Deliveries also can’t be made to dorms—sorry G-town students—and you can’t have cat allergies… obviously.
A cafe staff member will also give prospective kitten cuddlers a call to “make sure you are somebody who is safe for us to bring our employees and kittens,” says Kanchan Singh, owner of the Georgetown cafe that opened in June.
The first 10 people to pass these strict eligibility requirements will get a basket of kittens, macarons, and a playpen to be set up in their living rooms on December 20.
This is a one-day event for now, but they’re “testing it out to do it on a bigger scale,” Singh says.
Crumbs and Whiskers is the first cat cafe in D.C. and houses about 20 cats per week that would otherwise be in shelters.
