Earlier today, The Post broke news about Blind Dog Cafe’s forthcoming transition into “Union Kitchen Presents”—a pop-up space for local restaurants and food start-ups.

This left us nightlife folks wondering about Darnell’s, the bar that operates in the same space after Blind Dog’s 4 p.m. close. Rated 4.5 stars, Yelpers praise the bar for its house party vibe, cheap (but strong) drinks, mix of old school hip hop and R&B sounds, and soul food.

According to Jonas Singer of Blind Dog, there’s no need to worry about the after-hours joint. “The relationship between us and Darnell has always been very symbiotic and the goal is to continue to grow his business as well,” Singer said in an email. Hopefully, the rotating pop-ups will attract a diverse audience to the space and draw even more attention to “how awesome Darnell’s is,” he continued.

The first restaurant to set up at the Shaw locale is Timber Pizza Co., which will operate Fridays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until March.

Blind Dog will officially close in January, but the cafe still plans to honor its participation in the Indie Coffee Passport, Singer says.
