It was reading time with the First Lady yesterday for sick children in Northwest. In a time-honored tradition among U.S. First Ladies, Michelle Obama spread holiday cheer at the Children’s National Hospital.
Her visit began with a tour through the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which houses children who need care for extended periods of time, according to a release. She was then escorted by two patients, Stephen Orzechowski, 5, and Luna Fera, 11 to the hospital’s Main Atrium where she read ‘Twas the Night before Christmas.
Mrs. Obama has made this holiday visit since December 2009.
“As an advocate for children’s health and well-being, we appreciate Mrs. Obama’s commitment. Her visit lifted the spirits of our patients, families, and staff,” said Kurt Newman, MD, president and CEO of Children’s National in the release.
Among her many advocacy issues, Mrs. Obama is also committed to children’s academic success—by any means necessary. She was recently dubbed “Flowtus” after rapping in the Go To College music video with SNL’s Jay Pharoah as part of her Better Make Room campaign to promote higher education.
