Assuming you’re going out to dance, see some things drop, or just drink in your sparkliest clothes, you’ll need to return home at some point. Since this night will probably already cost a silly amount of money, here are three ways to get back safely and at no cost.
Take a carpooling app: While Uber has already sent out warnings about surge pricing, D.C.-based Split has taken the opposite tactic: it is give out free rides. All current users and those who sign up before 6 p.m. tonight can take a free ride between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Take the Metro: In case you hadn’t heard, all rides are free from midnight through closing at 3 a.m., courtesy of MillerCoors. There’s no track work in effect and the system will be operating on a regular schedule—but you know the risks.
Take a taxi: The Washington Regional Alcohol Program continues its annual Holiday SoberRide program: If you’re 21 or over, cab rides (up to $30) are free by calling 800-200-8294 (TAXI) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Local companies will provide rides in the District of Columbia; in Maryland’s Montgomery and Prince George’s counties; and in the Northern Virginia’s Arlington, Fairfax, (eastern) Loudoun and Prince William continues. So far this season, they’ve already given more than 800 rides.
Bonus: If you need to pretend like you’re going to keep that annual resolution to work out more come Jan. 1, you now have one less excuse for failing—all city-run fitness facilities will be free in 2016.
