Earlier today, two cars on Metro’s Green Line separated, causing passengers to wait more than 10 minutes before switching trains at Navy Yard. Here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen this weekend as Metro already has scheduled delays on all six lines.
While most delays go through closing on Sunday, Metro has adjusted its scheduled track work this weekend on the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines to end at Noon on Sunday, accommodating fans attending the NFL Wild Card game at FedEx Field. (Silver Line trains, which prior to noon will end at East Falls Church, will return to their normal route between Wiehle-Reston East and Largo Town Center starting at noon.)
Red Line
Trains every 10-18 minutes
Single tracking between Forest Glen and Glenmont to allow for communication cable & third rail renewal. Trains will operate:
- Between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 18 minutes
- Between Shady Grove and Silver Spring every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. -9 p.m. only.
Orange Line
Trains every 20 minutes—10 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday at Noon
Single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian to allow for communications upgrades and third rail renewal.
Silver Line
Trains run between Wiehle-Reston East & East Falls Church only at regular weekend intervals—10 p.m. Friday until Sunday at Noon
Silver Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Wiehle-Reston East and East Falls Church only.
Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip.
At East Falls Church Station, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same side of the platform.
Blue Line
Trains every 20 minutes—10 p.m. Friday until Sunday at Noon
Single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian to allow for communications upgrades and third rail renewal.
Yellow Line
Regular weekend service between Huntington & Mt Vernon Square—10 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday
All trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Sqare rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Green Line
Buses replace trains at Greenbelt Station only—7 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Throughout the weekend, Green Line service will operate at regular weekend intervals between College Park and Branch Ave stations.
On Saturday and Sunday, no trains will run between College Park and Greenbelt to allow for construction of a new test track to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series railcars.
Free shuttle buses will run between College Park and Greenbelt.
