A band mostly consisted of University of Maryland students, the Tomato Dodgers are taking advantage of winter break by going on a tour and releasing a new single. At over six minutes, “Revenge of the Space Ghost” is the longest song that the group has ever done. The track was mixed by members of Loud Dudes for Rent, a local sound engineering service.
Asher Meerovich, the lead man of the group, describes the song to be “an epic”. “The lyrics are only some pieces of the puzzle,” Meerovich says. “There are clues and other details hidden within the song but the story itself is about a couple—the prodigal couple of all love songs.” The song is straight up rock—with a catchy tune as well. If you are committed to listening to it over and over to decipher the storyline, it wouldn’t be hard to do to at all.
The Tomato Dodgers start their winter tour in Greensboro, and they finish up it at their own Hyattsville house venue, dubbed The Void, on January 23. As an attendant of few of their shows, I can describe their sets as high-energy, entertaining and delightfully peculiar at times.
