Today, Uber plans to announce that rides within its D.C. coverage area will be cheaper in order to fight the “January blues.”

The ride-hailing company expects a post-holiday slowdown that could keep folks at home, Uber spokesperson Kaitlin Durkosh says. To keep numbers up, the company is reducing prices by 10 percent this winter (they’ve made varied reductions for the past three years in the District).

The more riders fight the cold weather and take advantage of the lower prices, “the longer they’ll be around,” Durkosh says.

The reduction only applies to UberX and UberXL. For those who use UberPOOL, the minimum fare will now be $4 as opposed to $5 (and if that’s your preferred choice, remember that Uber suggests you not be stinky or argumentative).
