Can you edit as well as you can eat? DCist is hiring a part-time editor to oversee content for the food and drink section, including assigning stories, managing a team of freelancers, and editing their work.
We are looking for a candidate with a deep knowledge of D.C.’s culinary scene, strong news and editorial instincts, excellent organizational skills, and a lively voice. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, takes a creative and discerning approach to covering the local restaurant scene, and has the communications skills necessary to lead a team primarily via email.
The Food Editor’s responsibilities will include:
- Assigning and editing stories.
- Working with DCist staff, freelance writers, and photographers to develop recurring features.
- Reporting on breaking food and drink news and writing engaging blog posts.
- Contributing to weekly “Best Of D.C.” lists related to food or drink.
- Managing a monthly section budget for freelance work.
The Food Editor reports directly to DCist’s Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor. This position is part-time (approximately 10-15 hours/week).
Please send a brief email with a summary of your writing/editing experience and links to five of your best food, drink, or other relevant writing clips to jobs@dcist.com. No need to follow up: if we’re interested, you’ll hear from us. No attachments, please.
