It’s a tough call—stay inside and watch the alluring snow from your window, or bundle up to get whipped up by the winds and look like a powdered donut. Few of us are as lucky as the National Zoo’s red-tailed monkeys and black-footed ferrets, whose keepers brought the snow into their enclosures for some play time.

Not all of the animals got snow delivery, though. Asian elephants had the choice to go outside, and American Bison explored how the blizzard was impacting their enclosure. Red pandas, newly returned to the zoo, decided to eat outside. The zoo notes that their “thick fur covers their paws completely,” so they’re all set for the weather.

Some of the animals are less adapted to the cold. The flamingos stayed away from the cold entirely. Keepers moved them to a heated area in the enclosure.
