Mount Pleasant is on the map as one of this year’s hottest ‘hoods to watch, according to an annual list released by real estate brokerage firm Redfin. Nationally, it ranked number five, following neighborhoods in Chicago, Nashville, Minneapolis, and Austin.
The firm’s predictions are based on “the most recent growth we’ve seen in page views and favorites on Redfin.com.”
While the Northwest neighborhood feels “tucked away,” Mount Pleasant has it all, says Redfin agent Rory Obletz, noting its large row homes with rear parking, tree lined streets, highly-ranked schools, retail options, and access to multiples means of transit. “The market has been hot for the past few years and it shows no signs of slowing down. Bidding wars are the standard,” Obletz says.
In 2015, Mount Pleasant ranked second as Redfin’s most competitive neighborhoods for D.C. buyers, battling American University Park and the U Street Corridor, according to Redfin spokesperson Alina Ptaszynski. The median sale price for a Mount Pleasant abode is $760,000, and homes in the neighborhood spend an average of seven days on the market.
D.C.’s northeast neighbor, Woodbridge, was named Redfin’s hottest neighborhood in 2015, with a median sale price of $388,000.
And in terms of 2016’s hottest neighborhoods across the city,16th Street Heights and Woodridge/Fort Lincoln are next in line.
