With a winter weather advisory in effect for 2 to 5 inches of snow tonight, Metro has announced that buses will have limited service tomorrow.

Under a “moderate snow plan,” some routes will be cancelled (see here for the full list) and others might see detours. If schools are open, Metrobus trips to DC Public Schools and Public Charter Schools will operate.

Metrorail is slated to operate regularly on all lines. WMATA says that deicing operations will begin overnight and crews will be clearing platforms and sidewalks.

Rain is likely to start falling this evening and turn to snow sometime between 10 p.m. until midnight. Periods of snowfall could continue into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The mayor has also already directed a full deployment of the city’s snow team. Hopefully that should help avoid the kind of mess that occurred several days before Jonas/Snowzilla, when predictions for a dusting turned into more like 2 inches which turned into several hours of traffic delays. The next day, Bowser apologized for not being adequately prepared.
