If you missed seeing your favorite band play at the 9:30 Club in the past few months, you may be able to rock with them this spring—from the comfort of your own home. The 35-year-old music hotspot will air performances interspersed with other forms of entertainment on its new variety show, “Live At 9:30,” slated to air this April.
The show’s premiere season will run 12 one-hour episodes on PBS networks nationwide. The first three will showcase acts such as Garbage, The Arcs, Tove Lo, Ibeyi, El Vy, MisterWives, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Frank Turner, MS MR, Cold War Kids, and more. The show gets its variety feel by mixing musical acts with interviews, short films, and comedic bits.
A mixed bag of contributors and hosts are also expected to make cameos, from Henry Rollins and Bob Boilen to Hannibal Buress and Jill Kargman.
“Seeing how the community has rallied around this show—artists, managers, the D.C. Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment and more—that really drives home that this is much more than just a music club,” says the show’s executive producer Michael Holstein, who joins several DCist writers who’ve frequented the venue for decades.
The show’s title sponsor, Squarespace, is hosting the its website, which currently shows a teaser reel. Detroit-based retailer Shinola and Destination DC are supporting sponsors.
