Prolific performance artist Brian Feldman was hospitalized after being attacked just a block from his Deanwood home, according to an account by his sister.

They beat him and kicked him to the ground and kept kicking him in the head until he was unconscious. They also stole his bike. The bus driver called an ambulance. He woke up in the hospital. He has a concussion, a broken nose, a sub galeal hematoma, and broken vertebrae in his lumbar spine in addition to cuts and abrasions. He is so lucky to still be alive.

My dad went up to be with him and to help take care of him since he has been discharged from the hospital. He is also looking around for a different place to live since he now doesn’t feel as safe where he is at.

The family, who often collaborates with Feldman on his projects, is raising funds to help him pay off considerable medical bills on GoFundMe.

Feldman has made a name for himself as a quirky, experimental artist who doesn’t just break the fourth wall, but often obliterates the room. At one point, he was doing three shows concurrently: a performance comprised entirely of dramatic readings of text messages (txt), a one-on-one outing with a single audience member (#BFFDC), and a third wherein he does a sink full of dishes, followed by a monologue of the ticket holder’s choosing (Dishwasher).
