Several hundred people crowded outside an Adams Morgan bar on Sunday as D.C. police officers tried to subdue individuals in a chaotic scene. The incident, which was caught on tape and posted to Facebook, is still under investigation, said MPD spokesperson Aquita Brown.
Authorities arrested three people and charged them each with assault on a police officer. All refused orders to leave and resisted arrest, MPD spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told The Washington Post.
In the video, an officer repeatedly beats a man with a baton while two other officers try to drag him off of a fence. The man eventually gets free, but is again surrounded by officers, one of whom punches him in the face. The video then switches to glimpses of several people being pinned to the ground or against other surfaces by police. Meanwhile, a man continues to yell, “He ain’t do nothing… they just beat that man for nothing!”
The incident, which took place in the 2300 block of 18th Street NW, began about 3 a.m. Sunday, according to Sternbeck, who said a bar bouncer kicked out a drunk patron and a friend intervened when police arrived.
