Metro isn’t the only transit agency making changes. Effective today, MARC riders must show their tickets before boarding the train, in addition to once they’re seated.

The Maryland Transit Agency did not say if the change was in response to a specific incident, according to The Washington Post.

But a memo from the agency says it’s in an effort to improve safety and security at Union Station. Both MARC employees and police officers will check tickets before passengers pass through the gates leading to platform areas.
