DAWN performs tonight at DC9.

Monday

DAWN, DAIS @ DC9 8:30 $25.
All ages, inaccessible venue.

Being a member of a group, let alone a group made on TV can be limiting to an artist. Dawn Richard knows this well, as she was a member of Danity Kane. After the band broke up, Diddy kept Richard around for his group Dirty Money. With both of those projects behind her, Richard is letting her creativity fly with her solo project DAWN. DAWN blends forward thinking R&B with striking visuals, making music no one else in the game is making. Blackheart, DAWN’s second record was one of the best releases of last year, and this year she is following it up with the last in her trilogy of albums, Redemptionheart. DC9 seems like an odd choice for DAWN, but she is going to light the stage on fire.

>>9:30 Club: Rachel Platten, Eric Hutchinson 7 P.M. $25. All ages, accessible venue.

Tuesday

Oneohtrix Point Never, Jason Lescalleet @ The Ottobar 8 P.M. $15. All ages, accessible venue.

Oneohtrix Point Never, or OPN, is a noise-based artist, but his music is still accessible. While some tracks are filled with jagged edges, others are expertly constructed and blissful soundscapes. Last year’s Garden of Delete was a different kind of beast, as it was a record nu-metal fans could love. The album isn’t nu-metal per say, but it had the feeling of one. It is also OPN’s best release in a discography of gems. Though the show is all the way out in Baltimore, OPN tours so sporadically that this might be the last time you can see him in this area for a long time.

>>Howard Theatre:
Tank 6 P.M. $37.50 – $80. All ages, accessible venue.

Wednesday

Tinashe, Ryan Hemsworth @ Fillmore Silver Spring 8 P.M. $25. All ages, accessible venue.

There are plenty of forward thinking R&B artists (like DAWN mentioned above), but rarely do they break out on the radio as Tinashe has. Like DAWN, Tinashe was also part of a group, but Tinashe has made a name for herself with dreamy music and stunning music videos. Her 2014 record, Aquarius , has fully formed sound and produced the hit singles, “2On” and “All Hands on Deck”. This year Tinashe is releasing Joy Ride and the few songs she has shared from it, such as “Party Favors” and “Player”, make it seem like the album will equal the brilliance of Aquarius.

>>Rock and Roll Hotel:
Foxing, O’Brother, Tancred, Adjy 6:30 P.M. $13. All ages, accessible venue.

Thursday

Yung Lean, Adamn Killa @ Fillmore Silver Spring 8 P.M. $22. All ages, accessible venue.

Sad Boys is a movement of young Nordic rappers known for dark beats and a general, for lack of a better term, sadness. While some critics call them inauthentic, the movement has gained a large following of young fans, selling shows out around the country. The most prominent sad boy is Yung Lean, a Swedish rapper who just released the druggy second record, Warlord , in February. Yung Lean’s flows reference everything and can be all over the place, matching Future’s hedonistic rhymes in terms of how many drugs are consumed.

>>Rock and Roll Hotel: J. Roddy Walston & the Business 7 P.M. Sold Out. All ages, accessible venue.

>>Howard Theatre: Keith Sweat 6 P.M. $49.50 – $92.50. All ages, accessible venue.

Friday

>>U Street Music Hall:
XXYYXX and Jim-E Stack 10 P.M. $15. 18+, accessible venue.

>>Comet Ping Pong: The North Country, My Son Bison, Sean Barna 10 P.M. $12. All ages, accessible venue.

Saturday

Tortoise, Mind Over Mirrors @ Black Cat 9 P.M. $15.
All ages, accessible venue.

Tortoise have been in the scene for 26 years making music that no one else even attempts to make. The band have fused indie rock, with jazz, dub, post-rock and everything in between. Each record builds on the other, subtly changing their sound. With the band’s latest album they added something missing through the years, vocals. While the album doesn’t match the vitality of Millions Now Living Will Never Die, the record is still a delight and proof of why Tortoise are still a great band.

>>U Street Music Hall: Daphni (aka Caribou) DJ set 10 P.M. $10. 18+, accessible venue.

>>Howard Theatre:
Pete Yorn 6 P.M. $35. All ages, accessible venue.

>>Songbyrd Music House & Record Café:
Puff Pieces, Jack on Fire, Nice Breeze, Escape-ism 7 P.M. $12. All ages, inaccessible venue.

Sunday

>>Baltimore Soundstage: Carly Rae Jepsen, Cardiknox, Fairground Saints 7 P.M. $23. All ages, accessible venue.

>>DC9:
Earthless 8:30 P.M $15. All ages, inaccessible venue.
